Part 2: Battle Lines Are Drawn

This is going to be a feisty piece, as hinted to by the topic! Part 1 covered the formation of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the second part of Peeling Back the COP  series, we will cover the Climate Change Convention. As a refresher, you may have heard of the 1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone as well as the stellar 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the OzoneLayer . Climate change mitigation and adaptation have become hot topics, and also one of the areas of focus for AYICC. But then, this topic can be overwhelming at times, and this was the case when I first set out to wrap my head around it. COP18 (18 th Conference of Parties) is just around the corner, and there are quite a number of interesting issues that will be discussed. As an African Union Youth Volunteer Corp, Davida was posted to Dar es Salaam to take up service for Mama Africa. He is stationed at Capacitate Consulting Ltd. – a Communications-for-development consultancy firm based in Dar es Salaam.
