11th December 2021

December last year, African Youth Initiative on Climate Change- Kenya, visited the Watoto Wema children’s home. An annual good will activity where members spent the day with the children playing games and fun interactions before settling for a hearty meal.

Members volunteered to cook for the children, made donations of basic essentials, interacting with the children playing football and volleyball.

We were later treated to some amazing performances of poems and dance.

Everyone needs love; love has the ability to heal and inspire and that is what this day was about. Going to the home, I was under the assumption that the children had no families, but after interacting with them it was evident that they were a family- full of love and joy. All the more reason for us to remember them and remind them that we are thinking and care for them as well. What they lack in earthly possessions they make up for in talent, joy, kindness and humility (the values that matter most in life).

Giving back in our own little ways is fulfilling and can change a child’s life for the better.
Many thanks to the management of Watoto Wema Children’s home for making the visit possible, the planning committee led by Paul Mutuku that made sure the visit was a success and for the individual members who contributed and assisted financially and or by volunteering to cook, clean and play with the children.
